Youth Care Worker (Part-Time)

Summary of Position

The Youth Care Worker (Part-Time) is responsible for the care and supervision of youth residents at the Sacred Heart
Center Child Services program in all facets (including physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being) of their
daily lives. Youth Care Workers are direct care staff and are responsible for implementing assigned treatment services,
maintaining accurate documentation of services and ensuring that the daily routine of the facility is upheld. This is a nonexempt position.

Accountability

Reports to Youth Care Worker Supervisor

Core Responsibilities

1. Responsible for daily supervision of youth residents and maintaining ratios according to licensing standards and
SHC policy.
2. Responsible for assisting in assuring that all youth needs are directly met.
3. Supervising and communicating with youth in a non-judgmental, (caring but firm) manner.
4. Implement the daily program schedule, in addition to organizing and carrying out activities with the youth
throughout scheduled shifts.
5. Responsible for managing crisis situations professionally and following agency policies and procedures related to
emergencies.
6. Daily implementation of and adherence to assigned behavior support plans and treatment plan services for each
youth.
7. Transporting youth to appointments, school, activities, etc.
8. Assist in admittance and discharge procedures of youth.
9. Daily maintaining complete, accurate, and timely records, incident reports, daily staff logs/vehicle logs and
reading assigned logs daily. Answering and logging all telephone calls in a professional manner.
10. Ensure that bedroom checks, self-harm checks, drug tests, etc. are completed per program procedures.
11. Educate youth on emergency safety procedures including but not limited to fire, security and tornado drills.
12. Supervise youth family visits and other contact as assigned.
13. Responsibilities Participate in program activities, staff meetings, coalition meetings and trainings regularly as
directed by supervisor.
14. Maintain youth and SHC personnel confidentiality.
15. Maintain professional boundaries with youth and demonstrate/ensure that healthy staff to youth working
relationships are maintained.
16. Maintaining courteous and professional relationships with supervisor, co-workers, youth, youth’s family
members, placing agency staff and referral agency staff.
17. All members of the Sacred Heart Center staff are considered Mandated Reporters of suspected child abuse or
neglect as required by law. Must understand and adhere to SHC policy and procedure for documenting and
reporting any suspected child abuse or neglect.
18. Responsible for daily care of the facility and keeping it clean and in order with the help of the youth.
19. Assisting in meal preparation on weekends and when necessary.

20. Provides other services and work duties as needed to meet the needs of the Sacred Heart Center and its ability
to carry out its mission.

Qualifications

• Minimum of High School diploma or GED is required
• A degree in Social Work or related field preferred
• 1-2 years of work as a Youth Care Worker or direct care staff is preferred
• Must be at least 21 years old
• Knowledge of the cultural and social patterns of the population we serve
• Basic computer skills required
• Interpersonal skills, must be able to communicate effectively
• Possess a valid South Dakota driver’s license
• Must have a current certificate or successfully complete CPR and First Aid training within the first two months of employment
• Ability to pass Safe Crisis Management and Ukeru training

Physical Demands

• Uses both hands and wrists repetitively for prolonged periods.
• Driving is required.
• Some supervision may require standing for prolonged periods.
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds with
assistance.

Expectations of Hours Worked

Under 30 hours a week, may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as scheduled
